A client phoned me this morning because she couldn’t get to the home page on Internet Explorer. When she launched IE she was constantly receiving a message telling her that her IE was running without Add-Ons.
It wasn’t the same annoying message that you usually get at the bottom of your screen asking you to manage your add-ons. This one was bringing up the information bar across the top of the screen and asking her to click to “manage add-ons”. I can’t take a screen shot to show you, as I’m writing this on my own computer after returning home.
When I clicked on “manage add-ons” I could see that her add-ons were all enabled. (The screenshot below is from my own computer)
I tried searching on the iternet, but most answers told me the obvious – click on tools/manage add ons and turn them on! They were already turned on.
Then, for some strange reason, I RIGHT CLICKED on the desktop IE icon. Under properties you should see this (again, screenshot from my own computer)
Look closely at the text in the “Target” field. On my computer it finishes with \ieexplore.exe”. On my client’s computer there was some extra text after this. Sadly, I don’t remember what it was, but I deleted it, clicked on apply and like magic, Internet Explorer worked again.
