A few weeks ago I went on holiday for a week with friends who are almost as addicted to the internet as I am. Usually when we go away we rent a cottage that has broadband provided (yes, we really are that sad!)
This time we’d rented an idyllic, log cabin beside a lake. Lots of sunshine, lots of birds, total peace – but no broadband. I decided I’d try a mobile broadband dongle. I did a little research and found that “3″ appeared to have the widest coverage in the UK – including our idyllic lake. I purchased a pay as you go dongle – and like magic it worked.
My friend also has a dongle – but a different provider. Hers didn’t work – mine did. We kept exchanging the dongle so we could both do some work. (Her business is mainly online too)
So – if you are travelling and need mobile broadband, consider a pay as you go dongle from 3. No need to pay a monthly contract – unless you travel frequently, in which case that might be more cost effective.
My clients often ask me which landline broadband provider(s) I recommend. Currently I recommend Plusnet in the UK. They are the company I use. They have UK call centres and I know from experience with my clients that they are friendly and helpful if you have questions or a problem.
